Gender Gap

The digital gender gap refers to disparities between men and women in access to, use of, and benefits from digital technologies. This gap manifests in various forms, including lower internet access rates, fewer women working in tech industries, and higher incidences of online harassment targeting women. Addressing this gap is crucial for achieving gender equality and ensuring that everyone can benefit from digital advancements.

Globally, 48% of women have internet access, compared with 58% of men, highlighting a significant barrier to accessing digital resources. In low- and middle-income countries, women are 10% less likely than men to own a mobile phone, resulting in 234 million fewer women with access to mobile technology. Women are also underrepresented in tech-related fields, comprising only 26% of the workforce in data and artificial intelligence roles. Additionally, 23% of women in the UK and the US have experienced online harassment, impacting their online engagement and safety.

Mind The Digital Gap recognises the importance of bridging this digital gender gap. Our organisation aims to empower women and girls through targeted programs and initiatives, ensuring they have the necessary skills and resources to thrive in the digital age. By focusing on these efforts, we strive to create a more inclusive and equitable digital future for all.
